Children’s Skiing Lessons

We run children’s skiing lessons in small groups, so your child can get the most out of their experience.

In order to learn quickly and gain confidence, children’s skiing lessons in small groups is essential for skill development. We teach children from the age of 4 and of all abilities. You will be asked to select your child’s Ski Level when you book, to ensure they are placed in a suitable group with children at the same level. Our lessons are built around a variety of games and exercises to help improve your child’s understanding of skiing and techniques, such as linking turns and controlling speed. We start by introducing them to the Skiway Code, teaching them the rules of the slopes, and making your child a safer skier on the mountain. Your child will have fun, learn how to ski and have a guaranteed smile throughout their week. We ask parents to provide children with 5 Euros per day, as the group will have a drink/snack break. All participants will recieve a badge at the end of week awarded according to the Snow Life Ski Awards system that we use and follow. These lessons are very popular due to our small group sizes, so availability is limited, especially in busy weeks. We advise to book early to avoid disappointment.

“Another awesome week with The Snow School. Paul has now been teaching our kids for the past 6 years with the lessons being a great balance between learning technique and, most importantly, having fun.

Paul interacts and engages so well with the children and really inspires confidence. I can’t recommend The Snow School highly enough. And what great skiers they now are!”

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know what level my child is at before booking?

Please do check our levels chart for your children before booking. Its important to have them in the right level from at the start of the week. Of course, we always harmonise groups throughout the week to ensure everyone is in the correct group.

Will the lesson be taught in English?

Yes,  our instructors are either native or fluent in English.  Our group lessons are delivered in English. If you have any other language requirements we can offer private lessons.

Will my child automatically move up a group from last year?

Not always, children learn and progress at different paces. It is quite normal for some children to stay in the same group level for more than one year, especially between the levels of 1-3. Our ethos is for the children to feel safe, have fun and keep them engaged. The progression then follows at a fast pace. Our instructors are super patient, fun and professional experts.

What do they need to bring?

All children must be suitably dressed, goggles and helmets are compulsory for all children. Even on a cloudy day the sun can be strong, so SPF is a good idea. Layers is important so you can add/remove if you wish. Please check every day your child has their ski pass in their left side pocket. Please ensure your child has some money on them each day for a drink/snack stop. Please provide them with a light snack.

What are your group sizes?

It depends on the week but it ranges from 2-9 children per group.

What happens if my child feels cold or unwell during the lesson?

Children can get tired or cold easily, our instructors realise this and will take that into account when planning their lessons. The children will have a break in the middle of the lesson for this reason. If your child feels unwell or the instructor feels that they are unable to continue with the lesson we will contact you and ask you to collect them. When booking we need a contact telephone number for when you are in resort. Please make sure you carry your phone during the day.

What if my child is in the wrong level?

Before booking its important to take a look and read our levels page and we can help you during the booking process to ensure this does not happen. If your instructor feels that your child is in the wrong group we will do our best to move them into a more suitable group for their ability. Every group is different and it is part of our instructor’s jobs to match the groups the best they can on ability. Do not worry if your child ends up in a different group to the one they started.

Can my children go in the same group?

Yes if they are the same ability. If they are different ages and levels then we advise against it. They would need to go into the lower level and this would affect the progression on the other child. All of our instructors are super friendly and used to this kind of situation. They will ensure your child feels safe and comfortable.

Will they receive an award at the end of the week?

The Snow School uses The Snowlife awards. Your child will receive a certificate and badge on their last day. They will be awarded a level based on the instructor’s assessment during the week.

Will my child need poles?

Your ski rental with automatically include poles, so take them. However if your child is a complete beginner then they will not need poles for the first couple of days. After day one its best to check with your instructor for the next day.

What is the youngest age for lessons?

For groups they can start at 5yrs old, private lessons we would recommend them being at least 3yrs old.

Do you have a break stop?

Yes, please provide your child with some money each day for our drink/snack stop. Its a good idea to put a snack in their pocket too in case they get hungry.

How will you keep my child safe?

Your child’s safety is our main concern and we have strict procedures in place to ensure they stay safe and enjoy their time on the snow. All children will be given a helmet cover on the first day and they must wear them throughout the week. The instructor will have each caregivers telephone number for every child. We also have a sign in/out procedure in place. We ask for the details of the nominated adult who will be picking up your child every day.

What happens if my child has an accident whilst skiing?

Do you offer full day group lessons?

We don’t offer any full day children’s group lessons. From feedback, we have found our customers love 4hr group lessons. Its enough time for the adults and also enough time to spend the afternoon with your children.

If you’d like your child to be in lessons all day you have the option of adding private lesson. Our 3 day part week private ski lessons are very popular! They are either on Sun, Tues & Thurs or Mon, Wed & Fri. The instructor will take them for lunch after the morning group lesson and then for a ski. We call it our ‘Lunch and Ski’ option.
